ScholarGram

A free platform for publishing scholarly works. This service has been retired and no longer accepts new submissions.

Legacy service

What ScholarGram Was

ScholarGram was an open, free platform to publish scholarly works including theses, dissertations, research papers, project reports, conference proceedings and journals as print and eBooks.

Research compiled after years of work often sits unread on library shelves. ScholarGram aimed to bring that work to the forefront so it could be retained indefinitely, shared more widely, and, where it sold, earn royalty for the author. Authors owned the copyright, set the list price, and could track sales and royalties through a self-service dashboard powered by White Falcon Publishing’s print-on-demand platform.

Scholarly works such as theses, dissertations, research papers, project reports, conference proceedings and journals, as print and eBooks.

How much did it cost to publish through ScholarGram?

Authors could publish for free using the self-service ScholarGram dashboard. Premium services (design, editing, marketing and so on) were available at a charge if required.

Did I need an ISBN to publish through ScholarGram?

No. An ISBN was not required for free publishing. If the author wanted global distribution services, an ISBN was required.

How many copies did one need to purchase upfront?

The author did not need to purchase any copies upfront.

Did the author get a discount on their own books?

Yes. The author was charged only the cost price of the book, while the list price applied to the market.

What royalty percentage was offered?

For the Indian edition, ScholarGram offered 70% profit share for books sold on the WFP Store and 35% profit share for books sold on other channels (such as Amazon.in, Flipkart and Paytm). Profit share is the difference between list price and cost, after applicable channel fees where relevant.

How was transparency assured for sales and royalty?

Authors could monitor sales and royalties directly through the ScholarGram dashboard.

Who fixed the list price of the book?

The author could set the list price at any value above the cost price of the book.

How often were royalty payments made?

Royalty payments were made either when the royalty balance exceeded Rs 1000 or at the end of each quarter.

No. Because copyright stayed with the author, there was no exclusivity requirement. Authors were free to republish through other platforms.
